We would like to explain a little bit about our mission.  Our story starts out as a little idea in California back in 1987.  After one of us was diagnosed with skin cancer, we decided to look into how well regular clothing prevented UV rays from penetrating through the clothing to the skin.  Much to our surprise, we found that most clothing fabrics were extremely poor UV blockers (most cotton t-shirts don't even block the doctor recommended minimum).  That discovery spawned The Solar Protective Factory.  You may not of heard of us, but 17 pioneering years later, and after years of research and development, we are the world-wide leaders in sun-protective fabric and apparel.   Focusing soley on the wholesale selling of our state-of-the-art Solarweave® and Solarknit® fabrics, we very quietly made quite a name for ourselves.  Our line of fabrics has been chosen by NASA, and companies such as Nike®, Reebok®, Liz Claiborne® and Sportif® have used SPF® fabrics for their apparel, headwear, swimwear, tents and umbrellas.  

Recently, we launched The Sun Protection Center.  Our reasoning was two-fold.  One, we believe that great sun-protection should be available to everyone, so we introduced a line of affordable, top-rated sun-protective t-shirts as an alternative to the high priced and sometimes goofy-looking shirts that are on the market today.  Two, we wanted to compile a one-stop source for the best, top-rated sun-protective products in the world.  Without real truth in labeling in the sun-protection industry, we created The Sun Protection Center in order that customers could feel confident that they were buying certified, top-rated clothing and accessories.

We also encourage you to look at the other products we have to offer.  Each product we sell is independently tested and certified to be a top-rated UV blocker.  What does this mean?  Before we will put another companies product on our site for our customers to buy, we first send samples to the International UV Testing Laboratories, located at Auburn University, where the product is bombarded with UV rays and put through an intense laundering simulation.  The product must pass the stringent requirements set forth by the AATCC and ASTM (the U.S. testing and labeling organizations) and earn a UV protection rating of UPF 40-50+.  This means that everything  we sell blocks over 97% of both UVA and UVB rays!  In this way we can GUARANTEE that everything we sell is the best, most top-rated sun-protective products on the market today! 

There are no exceptions.  Since there is no governmental regualtory agency ensuring proper labeling of sun protective clothing, we are doing it ourselves.  If it isn't the best, highest rated sun-protective apparel or accessory out there, if it doesn't pass and get certified by independent laboratory testing, we simply WILL NOT SELL IT.
